Provo Canyon 1/2 Marathon

My first race since high school! I was thinking about a marathon this year, but lots has happened when it comes to running, so I was excited to be able to do this half marathon. I started running with some friends in my neighborhood in April. Around Mother's Day, I somehow hurt my leg. I thought it was just a muscle that I could just take a week off and I'd be fine. I would still try and run, but got so frustrated because my leg hurt so badly! I'm not anti-drugs, but I really wanted it to just get better on it's own. Finally, after a month and a half of waiting, I went in and got a steroid shot in my leg. It helped! I was so excited to get running again. 4 weeks later I'm running this!
Not the best time, but I didn't really have any expectations since it was my first race, and I'd only run a 12-miler once before the race!

I was pretty wasted after the race. The first 4 miles were pretty steep down hill. It was hard to slow myself down and try to pace at first. I kind of got caught up in the excitement and went too fast at first and wore out my legs. I did just what everyone warned me not to! My friend Sarah who ran it with me is amazing! She ran this 21 weeks pregnant, and did so great!

Heather, Congratualations on you 1/2 marathon. We are so proud of you. It takes some determination to do that. I ran a 10KM race years ago and my time was so-so but I finished and felt such a great feeling. I love that you just run for yourself and don't worry about running to win. Thanks for sharing this with us. Love, Elder & Sister Residori
