A little bit of news.....

Well, it's been a long week and a half since Matthew came home and told me that he was pulled aside at work and offered a territory to become a sales territory manager. Right now he's a sales associate, working under someone, and this would be his own territory and he'd be over it, (basically a promotion). Anyways, I was so excited for him, the territory is the North East, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania etc. He looked at me and told me it came with a catch. It was his territory if he was willing to move up there and work it from there. REALLY?! I kinda looked at him like he was kidding....ha ha what a funny joke! Move to NY! HA! But he surely wasn't, and I could tell that he was really considering the idea. I didn't know what to say. How do you try and be supportive of your husband and his job when the thought just brings you to tears? (and not just normal tears, pregnancy tears....!)

After a week of talking, praying and negotiating with work it's pretty final that we'll be moving to either NY or PA. Here's where we need your help! :) Neither of us have really been up there enough to know where to even start looking for places to live. We can really live anywhere that is in his territory..... which makes it really hard to even start looking and narrowing down cities and areas. If you or anyone you know is from that area and loves where they live, let us know! Hopefully our house and everything will be ready to put up for sale this weekend, so then we can start looking at where we're going to go. So many unknowns! It's pretty crazy to think about, and if I think about it too long I just cry. We've both got most of our family here, and we live in the most incredible area, with amazing neighbors and friends we're going to miss SO much. But I have to remind myself that life goes forward and this is just the next stage. Just when you start to feel like things are going pretty well, something you never considered comes into the picture! I am excited for Matthew and this opportunity he's got, and I am excited to live back east where there will be so much to see and do.

So, if you have any thoughts or help for where we should start our search of where to live, we'd really appreciate anything :)

Lindsay Dickinson's older brother Keith and his wife Lindsay (Nieporte) live in Connecticut and they love it! He is going to school at NYU and working! I think they have lived there about 2 years and they have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't know if that would be an option but that would be a great place to go if it was a possibility!

Congratulations! It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for Matthew and your family. It will be bitter sweet but I bet you will love it! Good luck with everything!

WOOOOOOOOOW!!!! You're going to be like, a RS president as soon as you move there! That is really scary but such an adventure!!! It will be so fun for you!! I've had quite a few friends move to PA and just LOVE it! Hershey, Punxatauny, and some of the quieter (this may sound strange) places closer to Omish communities are great for raising kids. I don't know if I would move to NY but I'd totally go to PA. What a ride you're going to have!!! I'm excited to see all the "culture" you post on your blog about!!! Good luck, I know it's scary, but my prayers are with you and you will ROCK no matter where you go!!!

My dear sweet Heather and Matt,

This is amazing! You have so much to look forward to. Moving out of UT has been such a growth-filled experience, for ALL of us! I know it is uncertain, and downright terrifying to think of finding a new doc and not having family close by BUT this has the potential for being the GREATEST event thus far in your lives...it is up to YOU to make it happen!

I am proud of you, Heather for not just saying NO and that's that. Proud of you too, Matt, for not being too scared to tell Heather! You know the pattern for success and happiness: be faithful and true to the Lord and to each other, willing to submit your will to His, reach out to those new people around you...and you will feel His constant love and support as you transition.

I love you guys dearly. Although you will be missed, you are never farther than an email away!

Wow! That's a great opportunity for you! Now we REALLY need to get together before you take off! I would love to come visit sometime and we could take a trip together to NYC!

We have had family living in Rhode Island...don't know if that's part of the area. If it is and you are interested let me know and I'll talk to McKay's family who lived there! If I remember our conversations they really liked the ward and said it was a pretty area.

Hi,
I linked onto this blog from Michelle Tolboe's. Just wanted to say that my husband and I lived in Pennsylvania for 3 years. I was 33 years old. It was my first move away from my extended family and for 9 months I was depressed, but eventually I grew to absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it there. We lived in Harrisburg and went to the Hershey PA ward. Hershey Park was only 11 miles away from us and we had season passes which was very fun for the kids. The country side is stunning and there is so very much history on the east coast. You can do so many day trips and never run out of fun things to do. Lancaster which isn't too far from Harrisburg is home to many Amish people. What an amazing cultural background they have. The farms are breathtaking and the people are fasinating. Gettysburg is only 90 minutes away from Harrisburg, and is was one of my favorite places to go.
You will also find the mission field absolutely fantastic. We had missionaries in our home every week. In Utah we were lucky if we had them once every 6 months.
Since living on the east coast I decided I would much rather live there than the west, but my family is all in Idaho and Utah so now that we have a chance to get back to Utah we are very excited. However, you are still very young and you have so many great adventures ahead of you. I on the other hand am in my 50's, living in Wisconsin, and all my children and grandchildren are in Utah. So you can understand why I would prefer to be there than here.
I envy your being able to go to that oh so beautiful state of Pennsylvania. I haven't lived in New York, but there sure is a lot of church history there that I was able to see and it too was wonderful. Good luck to you and your family. Are you related to Collin Brinkerhoff? I was in a ward with his family for a few years. I just can't remember the parents names.

That sounds like lots of fun. think of all the great places you and your family can visit: church sites, US history sites, NYC, DC. I know how hard it is to move away from family but it will be great in the long run. Keep in touch.

How much do you like the snow???? just kidding. PA is beautiful I would definitely try there. parts of CT are great too, although taxes are pretty high. I also love New York, but nothing too close to the "big City" I would recommend finding a place close to your new ward building {you don't want to live too far away and have to travel 30-45 minutes to get to church, that's tough especially with kids) same thing goes for the temple, either Boston, New York, or DC. {I think no matter where you end up there will be some travel time for that} and stores you shop at regularly. that's one thing I hated when I first came out here, was how long it took to get to the store.
anyway no matter where you end up it'll be an adventure! let me know If I can do any research for you on this end. I'm in Western Mass, so if anything sparks your interest this way let me know! good luck with your search!

Maybe you can get a hold of Anika Arrhenius or at least her parents. Anika just left NY. I think she lived in White Plains and loved it. They were in an awesome ward. Good luck.

Oh that is crazy! what an amazing adventure! Congrats on the promotion! I don't have any advice for a place to live though! Good luck!

What a wonderful blessing to be getting a promotion when so many are losing their jobs right now. I know how scary it can be to move far far away from family (we are in Texas). Good luck finding the right state, city, home--everything. It can all seem overwhelming, but just take it step by step.

p.s. Don't forget to pay attention to schools even though you won't need them right away.

Congrats, that is very exciting. We would love to have mored family close(r) to us. I was excited when Marianne moved out here, but hopefully you guys will last a little longer than they did. We visited Hershey once, it was fun but that is all I know about PA. I agree with Becky - make sure you check out the schools - it makes a HUGE difference to be in a good school district. Good luck and we are excited for you. Congrats on baby girl #3. She is super lucky to be coming to your cute family.

Congrats on the new baby, and the promotion too. I have many friends out here from the East and they all miss it. I think house prices in upper NY are reasonable as in PA. ME and CT a bit more expensive, me thinks, but it will be an adventure anywhere. You could check out stake centers and try to live close because I know some are way spread out. Ours is 1.5 hours away and we are much closer than some. Upstate NY in on my visit wish place, all the lakes and such, beautiful. Amish people do make a good chair, though?? Good luck with everything. Don't be scared. Easterners are different and it will take a while to adjust, but don't give up on them.

You guys are full of excitement! First, another baby girl and then a move. That is great. I think you are going to love the East. I have cousins in Rochest, NY, Albany, NY and Harrisburg, PA and they love it. They are each nice communities - Albany being the biggest but all are quaint, nice areas to live. We visited them all one summer and it was so much fun. I am so thrilled for your family. Moving away from family is definitely challenging, but it is also so awesome for your family. I feel like Brandon and my relationship has only gotten stronger and it's really fun to grow and experience things just your little family. Good luck and congratulations!
